The Geoff Gascoyne Quartet and The Choir of Lincoln Cathedral

'Byrd meets Bird'

William Byrd (1540 – 1623) and Charlie ‘Bird’ Parker (1920 – 1955) shared musical genius and turbulent lives. Byrd, who was Organist and Master of the choristers at Lincoln Cathedral for 9 years, is considered to be the Father of Church Music. Parker played a critical role in the ‘invention’ of Bebop. Both left the world with a legacy of wonderful music . Tonight’s concert combines works from these two foremost musicians, both in juxtaposition and combination, with arrangements especially commissioned from Geoff Gascoyne.
