Brandon Allen's 'Gene Ammons Project' Quartet
Brandon’s admiration of the great US saxophonist Gene Ammons started 25 years ago, when he bought one of his recordings, and it has not dimmed with time.
Ammons was one of the founders of the Chicago style of tenor saxophone playing, alongside contemporaries Dexter Gordon and Sonny Stitt, but he stayed in touch with the R & B and Blues of his day and his playing was one of the models for the soul-jazz movement of the ‘60s.
Brandon has regularly hosted the Late Late Show at Ronnie Scotts where he began to introduce the audience to this highly approachable music played tonight by a stellar quartet.
